On demand

A visit to the Natuurhistorisch in Maastricht is always worthwhile: regularly new things may be seen here and there are 3 to 4 temporary exhibits per annum. In the museum nothing is required of you, but you are allowed to do lots of things. We like to offer our visitors things 'made to measure'. Whether this be a programme for parties, a practical session, arrangements for the Museum Café, a bithday-party, room hire or opening in the evening: by mutual arrangement all wishes and possibilities can be agreed upon. For older visitors a 45 min. film of 1918 with magnificent shots of the former southern Limburg is always a treat

Pictures from 1918
The film 'Limburg in Beeld', rediscovered in 1994, shows the southern Limburg countryside in the early twentieth century. This is the first Dutch educational film shot by cinematographer Jules Stoop. The film was originally produced to convince Dutch educationists of the possibilities offered by the medium film in the geography curriculum. Idyllic pictures of characteristic farming families and of everyday life on a southern Limburg farmstead alternate with ‘action shots’ of operational steam trains and workers toiling in the 'mergel' quarries.

Birthday-parties
A birthday party in the museum is an event to remember! Special programmes are available, depending on the age of the birthday boy or girl and their wishes. A 'mergel' practical session often proves to be the climax of the party, especially as the fossils collected may be taken home afterwards. And all the refreshments can be served in the Museum Café.

Practical session
In the Netherlands only in southern Limburg does 'mergel' come to the surface. The 'mergel' practical session of the Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht offers a unique opportunity to find answers to the question of what mergel is and how it originated. By handling 'mergel' (pre-prepared by the museum), examining it under microscopes and under expert supervision, the pupils themselves look for answers. They are allowed to take the fossils found home!

Room hire
The Museum Café, the Cabinet, the Auditorium and the exhibit halls offer novel possibilities as a reception area, giving a certain kind of distinction to receptions, parties, partner programmes, family gatherings or a staff 'evening out’. A variety of refreshments are on offer, ranging from coffee and cake and simple lunches to 'drinks with a nibble' and splendid hot and cold buffets. Please inquire about possibilities and prices
