![[Eucladoceros teguliensis]](afb/cd3011.jpg) |
To date two species of deer are known from the Tegelen clay deposits: the Large Tegelen Deer (Eucladoceros teguliensis) and the Small Tegelen Deer (Cervus rhenanus). The Large Tegelen Deer to some extent rresembled a Red Deer, but much larger! The Small Tegelen Deer, on the other hand, was even smaller than a fallow deer. Deer are real forest dwellers: they feed on leaves and twigs of trees and shrubs. That the Large Tegelen Deer was a real forest dweller we know from finds of lime trees fibres on its molars.
