Squid-like molluscs (Cephalopoda)

This group comprises molluscs with an elongated body, with the head on one end with two well-developed eyes and a mouth encircled by a ring of tentacles. Three groups of squid are regularly found in the Maastricht Chalks: Ammonites, Belemnites and Nautilids. Except for the last of these groups have become extinct.
