Molluscs (Mollusca)

Molluscs are a species-rich group, and include clams (bivalves), snails (gastropoids) and squid-like secies. Almost all molluscs have one feature in common: a sturdy shell of calcium carbonate. These durable parts fossilise easily, which explains why so many fossils of this diverse group of animals are found.
