Biology

[detail of wooded slope in the museum]

The biology department provides information on the region’s present-day fauna and flora, with playfully presented exhibits of the main types of landscape, or ‘habitat’, that characterise southern Limburg: hillside woodlands, chalk grasslands, meadow ponds, old gravel pits along the River Maas, underground habitats and the city walls of Maastricht. There are also separate exhibits of bats and insects. There is lots to be seen, done and experienced here ! These exhibitions are complemented by the ‘Subterraneum’’, the ‘Cabinet’ and a world-class collection of precious stones.

The biology department is currently being refurbished, for this reason, certain portions such as chalk soil pastures, Maastricht town walls and bats & insects are not yet included in this Website.
