The Subterraneum

Part of the vaults in the oldest part of the museum complex are devoted to a display showing how flint and 'mergel'were excavated in former times. In two true-to-life dioramas a c. 5100 year old flint mine and a c. 100 year old working face have been reconstructed. The cold and chill of the basement invite the visitor to imagine him- or herself below ground. The many authentic old tools used in the dioramas are part of a very special museum collection.
