The Museumcafé

[The café]

The Museum Café is the place where visitors, staff members and members of the Natuurhistorisch Genootschap meet. Here you can ask your questions or send us your views. At the Links-page you will find our tips for other interesting sites on the Web. Naturally, the Museum Café is also the place to have a rest and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or tea, soft drink or one of the beer brands typical of southern Limburg. How about a glass of "Korenwolf"?

[label of korenwolf beer] Korenwolf is the name of a type of Limburg white beer. It takes its name after the Limburg term for the hamster (Cricetus cricetus), a small mammal of the size of a guinea pig. In the Netherlands, hamsters are confined to southern Limburg, in part on account of the structure of loess which allows them to dig deep holes and tunnels. Changing agricultural methods are injurious to hamsters: their numbers rapidly decrease.
