Mosaleum

Bčr, the new Mosasaur, was placed in a specially designed house of glass, the socalled Mosaleum. It was designed by Marco Scheren / N Architecten in Maastricht. The design fully respects the monumental 18th century walls of the older parts of the museum that were built in the Maaslandse Renaissance style. It resulted in a transparent construction of glass and steel, a cube of 5 m high and wide. In a way, the design also remembers to the (much smaller) showcase of the first Mosasaur, Mosasaurus hoffmanni, that was displayed on Mount St. Pieter till it was transported to Paris by the French troops that occupied the city of Maastricht in 1795.
