Exhibit travelled the world
Dinosaurs Ammonites & Asteroids
Life and Death in the Maastrichtian

The year 1999 witnessed the 150th anniversary of the introduction, by André Dumont, of the Maastrichtian Stage, named after the city of Maastricht, in his description of the limestone (chalk) deposits at Mount St. Pieter. This time interval, the Système maestrichtien, or the Maastrichtian Stage, has since remained the youngest time slice of the Cretaceous Series, dated between 71.3 to 65.4 million years ago .

The 150th anniversary of the Maastrichtian was the reason behind the international exhibit Dinosaurs, Ammonites & Asteroids - Life and death in the Maastrichtian.

Starting at Maastricht in July 1999, the exhibit then made its way to Hunedoara (Romania), Trenton (New Jersey, USA), Muscat (Sultanate of Oman) and Kazimierz Dolny (Poland)..

Naturally, this exhibit on the Maastrichtian will remain available on-line on our award-winning website, in Dutch, English, Romanian and Polish language versions.
