Human beings are perhaps the only creatures on this earth that know that one day they will die. That is why, in life, we are consciously trying to deal with death and what is to follow. Through the ages, we have thus come up with rituals for handling of the dead. The exhibit illustrates what the handling of the dead was like in Maastricht
and environs in the period between 900 BC and 1,100 AD, with four urn
fields dating from the early Iron and late Bronze Age, a Roman tomb and
Mediaeval sarcophagi from the Sint Servaas church, forming the core of
the exhibit, which will last until September 5, 2004. |
